The first half of the 20th century was about to end. At the time, only adhesives of animal or vegetal origin existed in Brazil, and, in the footwear sector, the seam dominated (do you remember the tacks?).
With the end of World War II, a new technological revolution started. New synthetic raw materials and new concepts would stimulate and modify all segments of the world industry.
The Maia family, attentive to these transformations and with sound knowledge of the footwear industry, decided to found UNA, having as main object to supply adhesives for this sector.
A UNA starts the pioneer production of synthetic polychloroprene adhesives, which up to date are largely used not only in the footwear and leather articles industry, but also in the furniture, automobilist, civil construction and naval industries. This introduction originated a revolution in the footwear production in Brazil. The sector lived a moment extremely similar to these days.
With this new adhesive, the use of new synthetic materials was possible. Steps were eliminated. The shoes were manufactured faster.
The industrialization period had started. The great footwear poles of Novo Hamburgo and Franca appeared.
Once again, history repeats itself. UNA is the precursor of a new era. Through a new technology, Unagreen – water-based adhesives – incorporates unprecedented concepts and techniques.
Absence of toxicity and inflammability, improvement of work environment, more efficient and universal bonding, high resistance to traction and yellowness, easy application, elimination of production steps, no need of any change in the layout.
